Kwesi Arthur’s BET Viewers’ Choice Awards nomination. What does this mean to me?

This week tends to be an awesome week as the first part has drifted perfectly. Kwesi Arthur has been nominated for Best International Act for the BET Viewers Choice Awards.

Though hosted by the same magnate, the award scheme here is totally different as its solely based on 100% opinions of the fans.

Mind you Kwesi Arthur faces strong competition here as he faces Sjava from South Africa, MC Soffia from Brazil, Nailah Blackman from Trinidad and Tobago, Not3s from UK, Prince Waly from France, Sik-k from South Korea, Takeamic from France,IAMDDB from UK and Niniola from Nigeria.

Why is this perfect for me? A few years ago, becoming a rap star was nothing but a dream to Kwesi Arthur. He used to muscle out his peers on usual freestyle street battles till he had his big break with Grind Day.
From that day, his grind has never stopped. Co signed by many seasoned artists in Ghana, the young rapper was destined even before he knew it.

The GROUNDUP artists caught the attention of music lovers his debut project Live From Nkrumah Krom, an EP which symbolises the beginning and prior struggle of a young man on a journey to prove a point.
Grind Day stood up as not just the lead single, but the song that would propel him to greatness. He got featured by loads of artists and he quickly became one of the most sought after artist.

Why is this nomination special to me? We are in an era where hip hop music can’t sustain itself above Afro Pop music. He transformed regular hip hop by fusing Trap music with a strong local vibe thus making him a special artist. Secondly is his prior climb to this level. In a city where it’s hard to stand out as rap music is more of a competition, Kwesi Arthur made it seem easy.

The occasional topless, local jersey wearing, hyped up rapper is now on top of trending issues and its for the right reason.
What a time to be Ghanaian. Support him for his works. Vote for him by clicking this link and casting your vote but remember, when he wins, we all win.

Long live Kwesi Arthur, Long live Ghana music.
