Becca and Bisa K’dei were known as the musical Bonnie and Clyde. Their music collaboration and chemistry set them apart from most collaborations but it seems Becca ignored Bisa. How?
It’s April 2018 and there are only traces of his greatness on social media, tv and radio but I believe in Bisa K’dei. This is someone who rose with a soundtrack to becoming the most valuable artist in Ghana. The same artist whose rise gave some Ghanaian artists a new purpose.
We had a few acts cross over with success like R2Bees, who managed to curate the hit song “Mokoma” and “Lobi” which took Ghana by storm. It was evident that the Kwabena Kwabena magic did its job diligently. Our highlife music fused itself beautifully the neo afro pop era, which was present in the musical influence like Mr. Eazi.
But one name stood out in the Highlife era and it was Bisa K’dei. Bisa is known as the crown prince of highlife music. Bisa started as a soundtrack artist whose hit single “Dear My Love” and the popular, “Metanfo”. Everyone assumed Bisa would be a one hit wonder but he proved the country wrong.
Bisa released hits upon hits and there wasn’t a show that wouldn’t book him and no radio that wouldn’t play his song. His 2 albums, “Thanksgiving” and “Breakthrough” were critically acclaimed pieces and commercial successes. Bisa K’Dei became the biggest name in Ghana. Booking him was a sure success and featuring him was a guarantee for a hit.
But in a usual fashion, the fall of a great man is always caused by the damsel. A man who isn’t selfish with features granted one to the wonderful songstress, Becca and that became the beginning of what fans thought was a collaborative relationship.
HW3 was the biggest hit of 2016. It garnered views, reactions and awesome reviews by many pundits and critics. This fruitful collaboration continued with BESHIWO which sparked rumors speculating a love set between the two.
But honestly this was Bisa K’dei being a generous person to a dying career. This two songs revived the love for Becca by fans. It gave her what she really wanted; a worthy fight for the crown.
She ended up with a juicy deal with Zylofon Music and if history has shown us something, Zylofon breeds the juiciest of deals. Bisa K’dei got sidelined. His fame diminished, 2017 was super dry for the highlife crown prince and the attention span of Ghanaians got lost for him.
Ghanaian artist a while back. But as for relieving his greatness, we shall see.
Long Live Ghana Music
